Magnetic encoders provide design engineers the option of a 10-bit or 12-bit resolution package to cater to different application needs. In addition, the magnetic encoder comes complete with housing that enables easier assembly and integration to customers' applications, thus eliminating the tedious and cumbersome process of aligning the encoder and codewheel against the rotation shaft of the motor system.

Magnetic encoders typically use Hall Effect or magneto-resistive (MR) effect to sense positional information. Avago's magnetic encoders with integrated Hall sensors require a permanent magnet that is firmly mounted on the rotating shaft of a motor. Magnetic encoders operate on a non-contact basis. Thus, mechanical wear is not a consideration.
