Avago Technologies Receives 2010 EDN China Innovation Award for Ultra-Low-Power Digital Optocouplers
ACPL-M61L/061L/064L/W61L/K64L Devices Selected as the “Leading Product” in Network and Communications Category
SAN JOSE, Calif., and SINGAPORE,  January 27, 2011
Avago Technologies (Nasdaq: AVGO), a leading supplier of analog interface components for communications, industrial and consumer applications, today announced that its 10 MBd ultra-low power digital optocoupler family for optical isolation applications was voted the Leading Product in the Network and Communications category of the 2010 EDN China Innovation Awards (http://award.ednchina.com/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?ProductId=924). Utilizing a unique integrated circuit design and thick insulation material, the ACPL-M61L/061L/064L/W61L/K64L optocouplers offer a significant reduction in power requirements without compromising isolation and insulation performance.“We are pleased to have EDN China and its readers from the engineering community recognize the innovative features of our ultra-low-power optocouplers,” said Kheng-Jam Lee, director of marketing for optocoupler products at Avago. “These new 10 MBd digital optocouplers are enabling the next generation of energy-efficient optical isolation applications to operate at 90 percent less power than standard optocouplers. Our customers have been very pleased with their performance, not only for their ultra low power, but also for achieving minimum light output degradation of less than 5% over the operating lifetime with superior Avago LED technology.”
The ultra-low-power 10 MBd digital optocouplers provide high-voltage performance over the lifetime of the products while meeting the requirements of safe insulation for reinforced applications. This new optocoupler family targets designers of communication interfaces (RS485, CANBus, and I2C), microprocessor system interfaces, and digital isolation for A/D and D/A conversion applications. The optocouplers combine a high-efficiency LED and an integrated high-gain photo detector which results in low forward drive current (1.6 mA) that enables designers to interface the optocoupler input directly from the microcontroller output – eliminating the use of buffers to drive the LED. Moreover, the use of the LED input with a faraday shielded photodetector circuit enables best-in-class application level common-mode noise immunity (35kV/µs typical).
Samples and production quantities are available now through the Avago direct sales channel and via worldwide distribution partners. More information on Avago isolation amplifiers can be found at www.avagotech.com/optocouplers.
