The Altera® Optical FPGA takes the concept of embedded parallel optics and takes it to the next level of integration. By creating an Optical FPGA, Altera and Avago have made it possible for FPGA users to realize the advantages of parallel optical interfaces without becoming experts in optical design. Users will then realize the tremendous increase in link distance, performance and bandwidth possible when using fiber optics instead of copper for high-speed communications.
